My
experience involves studying in three continents: Africa, Europe, and America.
Thus, the three metropolitan cities: Tunis, Paris, and New York have been the
major highlights of my academic training in languages and linguistics.
My
undergraduate and graduate degrees are from the University of Tunis, Tunisia,
the Sorbonne University in Paris, France, and Cornell University in New York,
USA.
My
teaching experience has gone over 2o years
. It has been a real pleasure training learners in languages and linguistics in
North Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.
I
published one academic book, 13 academic articles (See sample publications), and
I participated in more then 32 international conferences in Europe, the Middle
East, and North America (See sample participation certificates).
My
research interests involve the morphosyntax of languages, discourse and
pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and language teaching tools and methodologies.
I speak
and write four major languages: Arabic, French, English and Chinese. I also
studied German for a short period of time. Among these languages, I have taught
three of them, namely Arabic, French, and English.
My
students have all along appreciated the level of knowledge, the
professionalism, and the dedication I hold to my profession (See sample
students’ evaluations)
I have
lately developed a novice approach to teaching and learning. The approach
focuses on the use of performing arts as a medium of learning. To that end, I
launched an institute in Paris - Maher
Language Institute (MLI)- and initiated a summer program in 2007 (see
http://www.maher-language-institute.com/mli/).
MLI’s
Summer Language Institute takes the form of a movie summer camp during which
language learners star in short movies as they learn languages. Thus far, I
have been the Executive Director of several shorts: (i) PUMP, (ii) The Great
Paris Adventure, (iii) Sapphire Bridge, (iv) The Smelly Walk to Save the
Planet, (v) The Mommy and Daddy Catalogue,
(vi) Snack Attack, (vii) Operation Hiccups, (viii) Welcome to Tunisia,
and more to come...My CV and the MLI’s Web Site provide much more details.
